Since Threads launched two years ago, it has been led by Adam Mosseri, who is also the head of Instagram. Today, Mosseri has been replaced by Connor Hayes, who previously led Meta’s generative AI team.
He will officially replace Mosseri starting next September. In a memo shared with employees, Mosseri said Threads is now more mature and therefore needs a dedicated application lead who can focus full-time on further developing the application.
Hayes’ appointment is seen as an early sign that Meta will introduce various generative AI features to Threads. Mark Zuckerberg announced this week that Meta will invest hundreds of billions in building data centers and hundreds of millions in poaching competitor staff to make Meta Intelligence Labs a success. We predict that Meta AI will eventually be offered on Threads with features similar to Grok on X.
Threads’ daily user count is now approaching that of its closest competitor X. Issues with owners and content on X have caused many to jump to other platforms.
