Microsoft Authenticator Will Be Completely Shut Down By August 2025

Microsoft Authenticator is an identity verification and password storage service developed by Microsoft to make it easier for users to easily store sensitive details such as passwords and credit card details to access their online accounts and services.

It seems quite useful, especially when you use complex and secure passwords for your accounts, and do not want to memorize long strings of letters and numbers. However, Microsoft has confirmed that the Microsoft Authenticator service will be completely shut down next month, August 2025.

In fact, critical changes have been shown since June, where users can no longer enter or import sensitive data details into the Authenticator service. Starting this month, the autofill function that automatically fills in sensitive details has been turned off, and in August 2025, all saved passwords and sensitive data will be deleted.

Users are seen to have many options for storing passwords and sensitive details, including Google Password Manager, 1Password and Proton Pass. Those who just want to easily store passwords can use the Microsoft Edge web browser, which also offers an autofill feature for quick and easy password filling.
