More than 170 million TikTok users in the United States will be asked to move to a new app developed using the codename M2. The existing app can still be used until March 26, 2026. Until now, who will be the new owner of TikTok in the United States is still a mystery with Trump simply saying that they are "rich people" and only waiting for China's permission.
The TikTok sale was initially opposed by China because it was considered a sale of local technology. The algorithm developed by Bytedance for TikTok cannot be sold without government permission. The developer of this new app may be the earliest indicator that the new app will use a different algorithm.
