Apple is increasing the price of its Apple TV+ subscription by 30% in the United States and several other countries starting today. In the United States, for example, customers are charged $12.99 (~RM 54.92) per month compared to $9.99 previously. Existing Apple TV+ customers will be charged this new subscription price in their next billing cycle.
According to Apple, the price increase is because it is a platform that has not offered any form of advertising since its launch, unlike Netflix and Disney+. Today's price increase is the third since Apple TV+ launched in 2019. At that time, it could be subscribed for only $4.99 per month.
Despite being in operation for six years, Apple TV+ still records a loss of around $1 billion a year with only 45 million subscribers, according to a Variety report earlier this year. So far, the subscription price in Malaysia remains at RM29.90 for an individual plan.
