Google Messages was updated on Android devices this morning with the ability to now filter out content that is suspected of being pornographic. When an image is received, the Android System SafetyCore will perform image processing directly from the device. If it detects that the image contains pornographic elements, it will be automatically blurred. The real image will only be clearly visible after the user taps on it.
In addition to blurring the image, Messsage will also display a notification to inform users why pornographic images are dangerous. There is also a button to block receiving more messages from the sender of pornographic images. Messages will also warn about the risks if users want to forward the received pornographic image to other users. It will only be sent after the user is aware of the risk of spreading it.
This protection feature can be enabled through the Messages settings. Click the account face icon, then go to Messages Settings and then to Protection and Security. Choose to enable Spam protection.
