Users of the open source Linux operating system are expected to face issues with Intel processors in the near and long term as Intel has laid off many of its technical staff, some of whom were responsible for developing and maintaining the processor driver software for the operating system.
It has been reported that Intel has laid off at least four employees responsible for this process. Individuals such as Mustafa Ismail, Tianfei Zhang and M. Chetan Kumar who updated the driver software for various Intel components for the Linux operating system are no longer with the company, and updates for functions such as modems, processor chips, storage, graphics chips and so on have been slowed down or stopped altogether.
The number of users of the Linux operating system may not be that high, but it is also worth noting that many companies still use the open source operating system to reduce their business operating costs.
The lack of new updates for the platform is expected to cause serious issues not only for companies that rely on it, but also for Intel as these companies look for new alternatives for their systems.
