The Malaysian Ministry of Transport has expressed its readiness to begin negotiations on the implementation of a cross-border ride-hailing service between Johor and Singapore.
Transport Minister, YB Anthony Loke, stressed that this initiative can only be implemented through close cooperation and mutual agreement between the two governments.
He explained that Malaysia is ready in principle to discuss the proposal for a cross-border ride-hailing service, but its implementation cannot be done unilaterally. Any decision must be reached through close cooperation between the Malaysian and Singaporean governments.
This proposal was once raised with former Singaporean Transport Minister, Chee Hong Tat, but at that time his party was not ready to discuss further. Loke expressed his hope that negotiations could resume to strengthen cross-border relations and facilitate the movement of people.
In a recent statement, the Land Transport Authority of Singapore (LTA) announced that they do not have plans to fully implement the cross-border ride-hailing service.
Instead, LTA chose to expand the Cross-Border Taxi Scheme (CBTS) as an alternative to expand cross-border access for users.

To reduce traffic congestion at the Johor-Singapore border, the federal government has also implemented several strategic measures.
These include upgrading the main road connecting Bukit Chagar station for the Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link project.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with the Johor state government is planning to expand the Stop-and-Go Bus Service Transformation Scheme (SBST).
