NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW service has been upgraded to now offer video game streaming at the highest settings of 5K 120FPS. This is an improvement from the previous 4K 120FPS. The performance is achieved because GeForce NOW now uses an RTX 5080 GPU with 48GB of RAM instead of the RTX 4080.
Streaming at these ultra settings is accessible to GeForce NOW Ultimate subscribers for a fee of $20 per month. Subscribers will be able to access features such as DLSS 4 and ray tracing support in the games they stream. In addition to the 5K 120FPS resolution, subscribers are also given the option of 1440p 240FPS and 1080p 360FPS if frame rates are more important to them than high resolution.
Other improvements introduced include Cinematic Quality Streaming (CQS) with YUV 4:4:4 chroma subsampling, smoother streaming using the AV1 codec, and using AI to reduce the effects of artifacts on the graphics of the games being streamed. According to NVIDIA, CQS can detect the most optimal settings for the screen that the customer is using.
Currently, GeForce NOW offers 2300 games, but with the new Install-to-Play feature, this will increase to 4500 games. With Install-to-Play, PC games that customers own but are not offered on GeForce NOW will be uploaded directly to the cloud and installed. They can be streamed whenever they are needed with no reinstallation required. GeForce NOW Ultimate and Performance customers receive 100GB of storage for free with additional storage available for purchase through a monthly fee.
Finally, GeForce NOW can now stream on Steam Deck at 90 FPS and on new LG smart TVs, it can be played directly through the app without the need for additional hardware at 4K 120FPS HDR settings.
The enhanced NVIDIA GeForce NOW will be available starting next September.
