Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI is now reportedly looking to start a new company called Merge Labs. The company will focus on the brain-computer interface (BCI) arena, competing with Elon Musk's company, Neuralink.
Several companies are ready to venture into this arena, which focuses on connecting the human brain with a computer, while doing some difficult things, such as helping stroke patients speak again, paralyzed patients control tablets, or do some things with mind control. Neuralink itself has previously shown the ability of those who use brain implants to edit videos through mind control, in addition to playing chess and others.
This arena is still in its early stages at the moment. Sam Altman is said to be raising funds for Merge Labs at a company value of $850 million, and OpenAI is expected to invest in it.
For now, OpenAI has yet to issue any comments on this matter.
