Perodua Flexiplan Powered by Maybank MyImpact Launched – May Be Offered for Perodua EVs Soon

With less than 5 months left until the end of the year, many electric vehicles are starting to be sold. If last week the Proton e.MAS 5 made its debut and began its tour across Malaysia, until now there has been no news regarding electric cars from Perodua. However, today Perodua in collaboration with Maybank has launched the Perodua Flexiplan financing plan using Maybank Islamic myimpact, which also provides a glimpse of easier electric car ownership.

Perodua Flexiplan is a sharia-compliant vehicle financing program, allowing users to choose to pay for five years, and buy back the vehicle at a guaranteed price higher than the market price (subject to terms and conditions). Users can also change to a new vehicle model, or continue to use their existing vehicle with a revised financing rate. With this, users who buy a Perodua car using this Flexiplan can always change to a new car every 5 years.

And in the Maybank service brand, the name ‘myimpact’ is a name associated with sustainability. Referring to the Maybank myimpact credit card offering, it provides cashback on various sustainability-based products and services, including electric car charging fees. It also does not charge any late payment fees, has no annual fees, and also tracks carbon emissions from spending made using the Maybank myimpact credit card.

Judging from the combination of payment plans and sustainability brands, this type of financing may be suitable for Perodua's electric car which is targeted to be sold at around RM80k which may also require renting a battery separately. Referring to the Perodua Flexiplan plan, perhaps their electric car will be introduced with this type of financing plan, which makes it easier for users to own an electric car without worrying about the depreciation usually associated with electric cars. To date, many electric cars sold in the local market have depreciated in value, reaching 50% of the original price. In fact, the Perodua CEO also confirmed that Maybank will be a financing partner for their electric car which is expected to be sold by the end of this year.

Currently, the syariah-compliant Perodua Flexiplan plan is offered for the Myvi, Axia (except Axia E), Ativa and Aruz. The Perodua Alza is not included in this financing program. This financing program is a common practice for the Mercedes Benz brand under the name Agility Financing and with the introduction of Perodua Flexiplan in collaboration with Maybank, we may see a different financing pattern that guarantees the value of EVs in the future.
