Threads solidifies its status as an alternative platform to X with this month it has 400 million monthly active users. According to Adam Mosseri this figure was reached a few weeks ago and is an increase from the 350 million monthly active users reported last April.
The mass migration of users from X to Threads has helped the growth of this Meta-owned platform. After two years of launch, Threads now has 2/3 of the users compared to X which has around 611 million monthly active users. Extreme content problems, users boycotting Elon Musk and Threads algorithm which is seen as more advanced are driving the growth of Threads.
As a hardcore X user, I can say that the experience of using Threads is now getting better. However, basic features such as the feature of editing photos before uploading and the timeline which still has a Facebook “flavor” make it still not a true alternative to X. It is still better than Bluesky and Mastodon which have almost no local users so it feels like talking to a wall.
