US Government Considers Taking Equity in CHIPS Grantees, Including Samsung

Previous US administrations have already given grants to semiconductor companies under the CHIPS Act, giving them incentives to develop production in the country. As a result, the Trump administration is now looking at getting the grant money back, but in the form of equity in the companies.

Previously, the US has expressed its desire to take a stake in Intel. Now, not only Intel, the US government is also looking at taking a stake in other companies.

Previously, among the grant recipients under the US government's offer were Samsung, Micron, and TSMC. All have not commented on the matter, and may be waiting for more information before taking the next step.

Several analysts also expect that this US move may also affect these companies from continuing to invest in the country for semiconductor production.
