Robots have replaced humans in warehouses and department stores, so the next evolution is to also replace humans in sports events. The first World Humanoid Robot Games is currently underway in Beijing, China, involving 500 human-like robot “athletes” from 16 countries. The sports event will run until Sunday.
In addition to human sports events such as running and boxing, robots also compete in events performing daily tasks such as sorting boxes in warehouses, cleaning hotel rooms, taking out garbage and reading labels on medicine boxes in hospitals.
The World Humanoid Robot Games were created to drive the development of robotic technology that can not only help humans but can also be a source of entertainment like in science fiction movies. Robots are tested based on the speed and accuracy of performing the given tasks. Participants are allowed to use robots with the ability to operate independently with the help of AI or be controlled remotely.
