Under Elon Musk, X has introduced innovations like selling blue ink to anyone, allowing accounts to be blocked from reading the timelines of people who block and allow fascists to run rampant. This week, the X app was updated with a new feature that will display the “X.com” watermark when screenshots are taken.
We’ve been aware of this since yesterday with users complaining that it’s yet another unsolicited feature that Musk gave us. It’s not known why this new feature was suddenly introduced, but we suspect it’s because it’s a current trend to take screenshots on X and then share them on Reddit, Threads, and Bluesky. With the watermark, X.com can still be advertised on competing social media platforms indirectly.
At this point, the watermark is only visible when screenshots are taken on iOS devices. On Android, this feature is not yet available. Hopefully, it won’t be available until the trumpet because since Musk took over, new features have rarely been offered on Android.
