Xiaomi this year announced a processor chip for devices, called the XRING01. It comes about eight years since Xiaomi introduced its own processor chip, the Surge S1. The introduction of the XRING family is a new beginning for Xiaomi, and Xiaomi CEO even said that it will invest RMB50 billion over a period of 10 years in the development of its own processor chips.
Recently, sharing this with CNBC, Xiaomi said that it is planning the development of a new generation of phone chips and the next version of the XRING02. However, Xiaomi said that for this initial stage, they will not release their own processor chip every year, like Apple does.
It is said that around 1 million units of the XRING01 have been produced and generate devices such as Xiaomi phones and tablets. However, to overcome the loss, as many as 10 million units of the chip need to be produced for each edition – thus making it one of the biggest challenges in the use of the chip. The two devices that come with the XRING01 chip are the Xiaomi 15S Pro and the Xiaomi Pad 7 Ultra tablet.
Various companies are choosing to develop their own chips in an effort to allow them to further optimize software and operating systems, as well as control the annual device introduction schedule without relying on others.
For now, Xiaomi has not made a complete transition to chip use, and still relies on MediaTek and Qualcomm chips. In fact, the recently introduced Xiaomi 17 series is powered by the latest generation Snapdragon chip.
