Government Considers Limiting Malaysians to Two SIM Cards for Each Telecommunications Service

MCMC is currently in the process of updating its telecommunications service guidelines, and one of the changes being considered is the maximum limit for SIM card registration for each telecommunications service. Currently, Malaysians are allowed to register up to five SIM cards for each telecommunications company service. However, through the new update, it will be limited to two SIM cards for each telecommunications company.

In addition to Malaysians, for tourists or foreigners, it will be limited to registering only two SIM cards in total.

This change is expected to be enforced by early 2026. This measure is expected to curb abuse, especially involving fraud and misuse through digital platforms. This limit will be introduced for individual users only, and is not subject to registration by companies or enterprises.

In addition, previously, the government has also emphasized that it will introduce support for prepaid registration using MyDigital ID starting at the end of 2025.
