Next Xbox Console Will Use Windows and Access Steam Game Store

Is the future of consoles over or is the next step for it to be a hybrid box that supports multiple ecosystems? According to a report by Windows Central, this is the future of Xbox consoles that Microsoft wants to do.

The next generation Xbox will be a box powered by AMD chips with the Windows operating system. When launched, it will still provide an Xbox interface similar to the Xbox Full Screen Experience on the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally portable console. Xbox games can be played as usual through this interface.

But owners will then also be able to access third-party stores such as Steam and the Epic Games Store to play games purchased through platforms other than Xbox. Microsoft is said to be actively developing an interface that allows navigation using game controllers to be done more comfortably and connected to a TV. This is one of the main reasons for ROG Xbox Ally users because it still feels like a Windows computer that is more comfortable to use with a keyboard and mouse.

Previously, there have been rumors that the Xbox console will no longer be offered exclusively by Microsoft. The next console will be released by a third party such as ASUS under the Xbox branding. With this, more than one manufacturer can produce Xbox consoles. In other words, it's similar to the Steam Machine era or more accurately, the current PC ecosystem, just with Xbox branding.
