X, formerly known as Twitter, is 18 years old. In the nearly two decades since, there have been many accounts with catchy names that are no longer active. To address the issue of catchy accounts that are no longer active, X launched the Handles site to bid on accounts that are now neglected.
Premium+ and Premium Business customers can now express interest in taking over the accounts they want to own through Handles. Premium Business account holders will be given the advantage of applying earlier than Premium+ customers. If approved, they can use the account they originally applied for and remain subscribed to Premium Business.
For more unique and interesting accounts such as those with short characters, they will be for sale but only after receiving an invitation or in applications that are open at certain times only. X says unique accounts will be sold in the range of as low as $2500 and go up to seven figures based on the uniqueness of the name.
