Amazon is now filing a lawsuit against Perplexity, due to the AI agent feature offered by the service that allows users to automate the purchase of goods.
Amazon says this poses a security problem, where Perplexity accesses Amazon customer accounts, and also uses automation activities in making orders while pretending to be human activities. Perplexity is ready to use the Comet web browser and also their AI agent in allowing users to make purchases on the Amazon site. This step is said to be the experience of using Amazon's e-commerce service.
Amazon also emphasized the security threat to user data, and said that it has asked Perplexity to stop it several times, but it was ignored. Amazon hopes that third-party applications will have to operate more openly, and respect the decisions of a business whether to cooperate or not.
In addition to Perplexity, several other companies are also developing their own AI agents, and this lawsuit will certainly be a determinant of how such services will be classified moving forward.
For your information, Amazon itself has also made major investments in this arena, in addition to developing its own Alexa service.
