Better Well-being with Smart Energy Usage: Time of Use (ToU) Scheme Continues to Drive Customer Savings in TNB’s Third Quarter 2025 Performance

Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) today shared its third quarter 2025 statement, highlighting its commitment to national well-being by emphasizing customer empowerment, community support and long-term sustainability of energy supply in Malaysia.

In achieving this, one of the things that TNB has introduced this year is the Time of Use (ToU) Scheme. It has been introduced since 1 July 2025, allowing consumers to manage and optimize their monthly electricity bills. To date, more than 70,000 customers have opted for ToU, demonstrating an increase in public understanding of how this Time of Use Scheme can be a practical tool in effectively managing energy consumption.

In line with the increasing interest in this ToU, TNB has been more proactive and accelerated the installation of smart meters nationwide. To date, 5,081,063 smart meters have been installed, enabling households to obtain more accurate usage information at any time. This transition also demonstrates the good acceptance of this smart meter technology.

In an effort to continue to empower customers, TNB also provides ongoing rebates under the Automatic Fuel Adjustment Mechanism (AFA), which has enabled households to collectively save more than RM250 million on electricity bills. In addition to this for customers, AFA also enables immediate cost reimbursement and increases TNB's own cash flow.

Also sharing today, TNB stated that the myTNB application is now used by 7.1 million customers, equivalent to 70% of all customers. Users who use it are also increasing day by day, in obtaining various information related to electricity supply to consumer households.

In addition, TNB also supports the government's EV direction, and strengthens charging facilities nationwide, with 5,109 charging points installed as of September 2025. Since the beginning of 2025, more than 10 GWh of electricity have been supplied, generating revenue of around RM 5.1 million. This also shows the growth in EV usage and increasing demand for EV infrastructure in Malaysia.

Overall, for the first nine months of 2025, TNB recorded revenue of RM3.2 billion. Total electricity sales reached 99,930 GWh during the first 9 months of 2025. This was also supplemented by foreign exchange translation gains of RM350 million. Currency movements also had a positive impact on TNB's financial position, as well as strengthening the stability of TNB's earnings.

TNB also made high investments in strengthening grid reliability and customer experience. A total of RM3.1 billion was invested in grid reliability initiatives, bringing the total cumulative investment for this purpose to RM8.3 billion. This investment also brought a return in terms of a reduction in the System Average Interruption Time (SAIDI) to 46.65 minutes, compared to 47.62 minutes previously.

In its community support efforts, TNB has undertaken a number of initiatives, including;

Education Support (RM96 million): Assistance to students through UNITEN and Yayasan Tenaga Nasional (YTN) to strengthen the development of the nation’s future talents.

Zakat Assistance (RM9.15 million): Channeled to over 32,000 asnaf recipients for Fisabilillah purposes.
