Checking the authenticity of halal logos will become easier through the Selangor Government's initiative to develop a digital halal database. This effort aims to make it easier for consumers to check the halal status of products on the market, thus strengthening the halal ecosystem and protecting consumers from confusion.
The only halal logo recognized by the government is the Malaysian Halal Verification Certificate (SPHM) issued by Jakim. Therefore, any logo other than SPHM is invalid and may mislead consumers.
In addition, under Act 730 (Trade Description Act), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has the power to take action against those who misuse the halal logo, including summonses, compounds or imprisonment depending on the level of offense.
It is also emphasized that the recognition of the term 'Muslim Choice' to entrepreneurs is not a halal certificate recognized by the authorities. The use of such terms may cause confusion among the public regarding the halal status of a product or premise.
In this regard, all parties are reminded not to use or display any form of logo, term or statement that implies halal without official permission from Jakim, the State Islamic Religious Council (MAIN) or the State Islamic Religious Department (JAIN).
