SK Hynix Wants to Develop 24Gb GDDR7 Memory with 48Gbps Speed

We previously reported that Samsung has begun mass-producing 24Gb GDDR7 memory with 28Gb/s speed, and is now sampling the same memory with 32Gb/s and 36Gb/s speed.

Recently, it's the turn of another South Korean technology company, SK Hynix, to announce that they will also offer GDDR7 memory components with 24Gb capacity. The difference here is that they want to develop memory with a data transfer rate as fast as 48Gbps.

SK Hynix wants to show this memory at the International Solid State Circuits Conference (ISSCC) in February 2026 in San Francisco. Just like Samsung's 24Gb GDDR7 memory offering, this memory chip will be developed for use in AI server machines that generally require a large memory capacity and fast data transfer rates.

The most powerful graphics card on the market today, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 uses 16Gb GDDR7 memory chips with a speed of 28Gbps, so the new memory offered is larger and faster than the previous memory.

For now, the expectation is that this 24Gb memory will be offered on the NVIDIA RTX Pro 6000 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards for laptops, and possibly also on the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5000 Super graphics card which is also expected to be launched next year.
