Apple to Offer Third-Party App Store in Brazil

Brazil becomes the second market after the European Union (EU) and Japan to support third-party app stores on Apple devices. This comes after the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) said Apple agreed to the order after being found guilty of abusing its dominant position in the iOS app distribution market in Brazil.

Apple is under investigation in Brazil after a complaint was filed by Mercado Libre Group in 2022.. The option to make payments outside the App Store ecosystem can also be done with new options through third parties or from the app developer's website.

Apple has been given 105 days to make the changes requested by Brazilian authorities. Failure to comply with the order could result in Apple being fined BRL 150 million (~RM 110 million).
