Minister of Communications, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has now stated that the government is studying the proposal of an expert to establish an Influencer Code of Ethics. The Ministry of Communications is expected to meet with the expert to understand more about it.
The government will try to understand the expert's point of view, before examining it further. Today, there are no conditions or controls imposed on influencers - unless it involves sharing information related to finance and investments. According to the expert's proposal, it is requested that an Influencer Code of Ethics be established to curb the spread of views not based on expertise, especially on sensitive and high-impact issues on social media.
The development of the social arena makes many people share through it, and at times it opens up to the spread of false information and slander. This matter is also now becoming more difficult with the use of artificial intelligence and other technologies. Usually, the creation of a code of ethics will help as a reference guideline in what can be done and what not.
