Threads Tests AI Summary Feature to Make it Easier to Get to Know User Profiles

Threads is reportedly testing an artificial intelligence (AI) feature that can generate summaries of user activity. This summary will appear on the profile when visited, providing a brief highlight of past activity history.

The feature will display brief information about the account owner, frequently shared content, and key interests that may be of interest. This way, other users can understand a person’s background more quickly without having to go through all the posts one by one.

X already offers a similar feature through the ‘More about this account’ option for Premium users, where the Grok function is used to generate a profile summary. This summary makes it easier for users to judge whether they want to follow an account or not. Therefore, Threads’ move is seen as a strategy to compete with its competitors while leveraging Meta’s own AI technology.

While this feature clearly helps make activities easier, there are also concerns that it could reduce the fun of manually viewing profiles. This is because AI summaries have the potential to summarize a person’s identity into a few brief details, which may make users less interested in following accounts that are not very active.

The impact is expected to be small because quick summaries are more helpful and also act as a social filter. For example, if it displays critical comments, you can choose not to interact with them anymore. For now, Threads has not officially announced the feature and it is reportedly still in the testing phase.
