Micron is currently seen expanding its memory chip production capacity for the enterprise and AI sectors at a very rapid pace. Reuters has reported that the memory and storage chip manufacturer will invest $24 billion to build a new factory in Singapore to produce more memory components.
The factory will come with an area of 65,000 square meters and will begin operating at full capacity starting in the second half of 2028, adding capacity to 98 percent of their global production capacity of memory and storage semiconductor chips in the country.
Meanwhile, Micron is also building a $7 billion memory chip packaging center in Singapore that will help in packaging HBM memory that will be needed to accelerate the production of memory chips for use in the AI sector. This packaging plant is expected to be fully operational in 2027.
Micron is seen making huge investments in locations such as New York, Taiwan and even Singapore to ensure that they can supply enough memory components for the AI industry which is now seen as threatening the welfare of other technology industries.
They also said that the supply of memory will remain tight until at least 2027, and many companies are seen as having to ration their component supplies even if they are not very involved in the computing industry.
