New-look MyKad and Passports to be Introduced in Mid-2026

The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has now announced that it will introduce a new-look MyKad and passports in the middle of this year, which is around the end of the second quarter or early third quarter of 2026. This partnership comes as a follow-up to the announcement that MyKad will come with additional features, including the integration of QR code display on it.

Both of these identity documents will come with additional security features. For your information, today, the Malaysian passport is already recognized as one of the most reliable in the world, which is measured based on the ability to travel to other countries without having to apply for Visa approval first before going to a selected country.

It was also emphasized that existing MyKads and passports can be used as usual, and only need to be replaced when needed, such as exceeding the period and others. Further information regarding the transition and others is expected to be shared in phases after it is introduced.
