Vietnam Enforces 5-Second Skippable Requirement for Online Ads

The Vietnamese government has now issued a new law, which requires all video and image ads to be skippable within 5 seconds. The new law will come into effect in the country, starting February 15, 2026.

With this measure, users will not be forced to watch video ads – especially long ones that cannot be skipped. Today, we are ready to see a number of implementations of advertising methods, including video ads on YouTube and in online games that show a video – sometimes without a skip button.

In addition, pop-up ads on the web cannot include a deceptive close button. At the same time, the Vietnamese government emphasizes that all online ads must have the option to be reported, or choose not to see an ad.

Vietnam has also asked telecommunications and internet providers in the country to stop access to reported advertising services after 24 hours of receiving an official request from the authorities.

With this move, it is unknown whether the same thing will be enforced by other countries or not.
