Yesterday, Adobe announced that its animation software Animate will be discontinued starting March 1, 2026. The surprise announcement of support for this popular software for creating vector animations received heavy criticism from users since Adobe does not offer software with similar features.
Today, Adobe announced that plans to end support for Animate have been canceled. Instead, there is no end date for the software to be withdrawn from Adobe subscriptions. However, Adobe said that Animate is now in maintenance mode with security and bug patches being provided as needed. No new features will be added to the existing software.
This is a middle ground that will ensure that Animate can continue to be used by customers who have no other alternative and Adobe does not have to offer new versions every year like their other software.
