AMD ZEN6 Processor Chip Series Expected to Come with More Core Options

AMD is expected to launch its latest generation desktop processor chip series based on the ZEN 6 processor core by the end of this year (2026) or early next year (2027). Recently, some details about the core count of the processor chip series have been leaked to the web arena.

According to information leaker HXL and several other reports from technology websites, this processor chip series, which is currently codenamed “Olympic Ridge”, will come with a wider number of CPU core options than before.

This is because the processor chip option will come with two options of CCD (Core Complex Die) chiplets that house the cores. The first model with a single CCD chiplet will come with 6, 8, 10 and 12 cores, while the second model with two built-in CCDs will come with 8+8 cores, 10+10 cores and 12+12 cores.

This is the first time AMD has shown a CCD chiplet that comes with 12 built-in processing cores, where previous processing chips have been seen with a choice of 6 and 8 cores for each CCD chiplet.

Meanwhile, for the processing chip model with two built-in CCD components, each CCD will also come with 48MB of cache memory, making each processing chip come with 96MB of built-in memory, and this is before the X3D model is introduced, which is expected to come with more memory. For comparison, the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D comes with 144MB of built-in memory.

Interestingly, this series of processing chips is also expected to support existing AM5 series motherboards (X970, B850), and is expected to only require a BIOS update to enable it to be used with the new ZEN 6 series of processing chips.
