Meta and AMD today announced a partnership involving chips to power Meta’s artificial intelligence data center, which is estimated to be worth over $100 billion. Under this partnership, Meta will gain access to up to 6-gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPU processing power, with 1 gigawatt of processing power offered starting this year.
Meta said this partnership will allow them to continue developing artificial intelligence support in line with demand and usage. In addition, it will also make it easier for Meta to adjust their development environment in line with AMD’s GPU chip offerings.
At the same time, this partnership also gives Meta access to purchase 160 million units of AMD shares, which is around 10% of the semiconductor company. However, several conditions are set for granting this share access, including ensuring that AMD’s share value reaches a trading value of $600 per unit. For AMD, they also previously made a similar partnership with OpenAI, which gave OpenAI the opportunity to buy up to 10% of AMD’s shares.
