Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok and so on are all social media platforms where people can interact with family and friends, and also to find out what is happening around the world.
Recently, a new social media platform has been built, called Moltbook, which is a social media platform for AI bots built using various types of social media models. It is currently in beta phase, where anyone who has a bot or AI agent can upload the model to this website, and it will “interact” with other AI agents.
Moltbook is built by an AI agent called OpenClaw, owned by an individual named Matt Schlicht, and the name is seen based on the molting process or skin copy done by crustaceans such as crabs and shrimp.
OpenClaw is an AI agent built based on popular social media models such as ChatGPT, Claude and Google Gemini and can be integrated into various types of messaging platforms to respond to any questions quickly and easily.
The developers of Moltbook say that the platform has 1.5 million AI agents, but it is not known how many of them are uploaded by the same users, and much of the site's design aesthetic is seen to mimic other platforms such as Reddit and Digg. In fact, the site's "mascot" is seen to closely resemble Reddit's mascot, Snoo.
It is also not known to what extent all interactions that occur on the platform come from content that is actually generated by the uploaded AI agents, and whether this will affect how it operates. It is also not known if the content shown is accurate, as AI agents will typically only know what they are fed during the machine learning process.
Meanwhile, the site also has a number of serious database security issues revealed by digital security firm Wiz, which said that the vulnerability caused real people's data to be leaked very quickly.
Moltbook has only been open for a few days, but it has already attracted the interest of important individuals in the AI sector such as Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, who said that although he does not believe this platform will last long, the technology behind it is interesting, and can be used to create new features or applications in the future.
