Peter Steinberger, who created the artificial intelligence (AI) personal assistant OpenClaw, has joined OpenAI. This was announced by Sam Altman himself earlier today, saying that Steinberger will help develop the next generation of personal assistants at OpenAI. Steinberger said that his goal is to change the world and joining OpenAI is the fastest way to achieve this vision.
OpenClaw went viral because it was said to be an AI agent that could finally actually do tasks that previously required humans. It became even more viral when the AI agent OpenClaw opened its own social media that did not accept human members. It started as Clawdbot before being renamed Moltbot after being warned by Anthropic for being too similar to Claude. The name was later changed to OpenClaw.
Despite joining OpenAI, OpenClaw is now offered as open source and placed under a foundation with continued support from OpenAI.
