Sony recently announced its financial report for Q3 of fiscal year 2025 and confirmed that the PlayStation 5 console has sold 92.2 million unique units. In the last three months until December 31, another 8.1 million PS5s were successfully sold, helped by several discount promotions offered in several markets including Malaysia.
PS5 is now ranked as the 8th highest-selling console in the world and has managed to overtake PS3 sales which have sold 87.4 million so far. It needs around 10 million more units to overtake Nintendo Wii (101.63 million) and the original PlayStation (102.49 million).
PS5 sales actually decreased compared to the same quarter last year because it did not receive a sudden price cut like PS4 after five years of being sold. With the launch of PS6 expected to be delayed beyond 2028, this console will continue to be sold, helped by the selling price of gaming PCs which are becoming increasingly expensive due to lack of RAM and storage.
