Xiaomi and Ford Deny Report of US EV Collaboration

Xiaomi and Ford denied a Financial Times report over the weekend that they were in talks to collaborate on EV production in the US. Both companies issued joint denials, calling the report completely false.

Xiaomi said it does not sell products or services in the US and has no plans to enter the market through any partners. Ford denied that discussions had taken place to collaborate.

Even if the report is true, it is not known how Ford could have obtained government permission to proceed. The US does not allow the import of Chinese-made EVs into the country, citing national security risks.

In a move that has angered the US, Canada has allowed imports with low tariffs after Prime Minister Carney visited President Xi in China last month. This opens the first door for EVs to enter the North American market after a long hiatus.
