Last weekend, Iran was attacked by the United States and Israel using the excuse of avoiding being attacked first. In the attack, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several Iranian leaders were killed with the death toll still unknown. According to a WSJ report this morning, the United States used Anthropic's artificial intelligence (AI) Claude in the attack.
The Pentagon's Central Command (CENTCOM) uses Claude from Anthropic to conduct intelligence assessments, target identification and simulation of combat scenarios before the attack. Claude is still used by CENTCOM even though last Friday Anthropic was labeled a "supply chain risk" which means they can no longer have contracts with any local entities.
Anthropic's refusal to allow Claude to be used to control weapons targeting systems and spy on American citizens is the reason they were labeled as such. President Trump condemned Anthropic and warned that they would be forced to cooperate.
The US government has the power to force Anthropic to provide access to their artificial AI using the Defense Production Act. Although Athropic rejected the Pentagon's request, Google, xAI and OpenAI had no problem allowing their AI to be used for the same purpose.
