Elon Musk has now officially announced the latest project under his various companies, called Terafab. This project will involve a joint venture between Tesla and SpaceX, and the development of a complete chip production facility covering various things.
This project will also involve xAI, which was previously acquired by SpaceX. Elon Musk said that the semiconductor industry is moving too slowly, and through Terafab, it is expected to be able to enable the production of the chips needed, thus increasing overall output and innovation.
Elon Musk said that today, no facility offers the entire process of chip development, including packaging and testing for it. Terafab will initially develop chips that will be used in Tesla's Optimus robot, as well as used in Tesla vehicles.
With the world's transition to the arena of artificial intelligence, robotics and self-driving vehicles, chips are expected to play a major role, and Terafab is expected to take advantage of this opportunity. In addition, Terafab will also develop chips designed for the space environment, to enable the development of data centers in outer orbit. Three chip variants are currently planned under Terafab.
Not only that, Elon Musk also showed plans for a number of mini-satellites that will perform complex computing in space, which have a power capacity of 100 kilowatts, and can increase to megawatts in the future. With this step, various difficult and complex computing can be performed in space, and do not use a large space on Earth to perform the task.
In addition, Elon Musk also aims for SpaceX to have an operations center on the Moon, and enable the launch of satellites from the Moon.
