Starting in 2026, we will see more electric cars being assembled at local factories. This coincides with the government's initiative to encourage electric vehicle ownership, while also developing local industries. Recently, MG Malaysia has started assembling their MG S5 EV in Alor Gajah, Melaka.
The PEPS-JV Melaka factory is a collaboration between SAIC Motor Malaysia and EP Manufacturing Berhad. This same factory is also capable of assembling electric cars, hybrid cars, and petrol cars. For the initial assembly of the MG S5 EV, around 120 to 180 units of cars per month can be assembled.
The 2026 MG S5 EV CKD version will be launched soon with a price of around RM 120,000 and will have a better electric motor, with a power of 1551 kW and 350Nm of torque. It will also support 150kW fast charging, allowing 10-80% charging in as fast as 26 minutes. For the LUX version, it has a range of up to 446 KM.
Especially in conjunction with the first production of the MG S5 EV assembled in Melaka, MG Malaysia is holding a pre-order promotion that gives a value of up to RM 10,000 consisting of a RM 7,000 rebate, a 7kW charging box worth RM 2,000 and also a RM 1,000 charging credit. You can start pre-ordering starting today.
