TM slams DNB statement on breach of contract in 5G network access agreement

This morning we reported on Digital Nasional Berhad’s announcement that the contract between them and Telekom Malaysia is still in force until 2032. TM had previously signed a new 3-year contract with U Mobile to use their second 5G network, leaving behind the 5G network developed by DNB.

Recently, TM has also issued its own statement, slamming DNB’s claim that TM has not yet fully complied with the specific terms on early termination and applicable requirements.

TM STATEMENT ON 5G ACCESS AGREEMENT WITH DNB

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) notes Digital Nasional Berhad’s (DNB) media statement on the 5G Access Agreement dated 3 March 2026.

TM has exercised its contractual rights under the 5G Access Agreement by fully complying with the specific terms on early termination and applicable requirements, which also relate to the 5G Dual-Network Model. This decision was made after a thorough analysis of all legal rights and obligations as provided for in the Access Agreement. TM stressed that its termination notice is valid and fully retains all its rights.

The Access Agreement also provides a mechanism to resolve any differences of interpretation between the parties involved, and TM will take appropriate steps in accordance with the provisions of the agreement.

Our priority remains to ensure that services to customers are not disrupted, while managing this transition in a phased and orderly manner.

In the statement, TM said that the termination notice issued is not only valid, but TM has also exercised its contractual rights by complying with the terms and conditions contained in the 5G Access Agreement contract with DNB. The access agreement also provides a clear mechanism to avoid misinterpretation by both parties.

TM, through Unifi Mobile, appears to remain determined to change the network operator to the second 5G network, U Mobile, as previously announced.
