The majority of new laptops sold in the European Union (EU) market are now required to have at least one USB-C charging port. This standardization of charging ports is in line with the introduction of a similar directive for smartphones and several other electronic devices that was introduced a few years ago.
There are some exceptions given because this directive only applies to laptops with a power of 100W or less. High-powered gaming computers can still supply power using the barrel plug that has been used so far.
At the same time, manufacturers will have to offer bundles that offer the purchase of laptops without a charger to EU consumers. This will reduce the dumping of electronic waste and reduce costs for consumers who already have their own chargers.
