Grab began offering its robotexy service to the public in Singapore yesterday, making it the first robotexy service in Southeast Asia. Grab’s Ai.R (Autonomously Intelligent Ride) service is offered by Grab through a partnership with self-driving vehicle company WeRide.
Two types of vehicles are offered, namely the GXR and Robobus, with the GXR having been used as robotexy in China, the UAE and Saudi Arabia. The Grab Ai.R service has been tested since January in the residential area of Punggol. So far, 1,000 passengers have used it and the robotexy has traveled 30,000 km of self-driving travel. As a safety measure, each robotexy has 14 human drivers who take over control when needed.
To use this robotexy service, bookings are made via the rideair.ai website with operating hours 9:30 am – 5:30 pm from Monday to Friday. The service is still limited because it is only around Punggol with two fully self-driving routes and one “Mini Route” for 20 minutes. It is however free to use until mid-2026 to collect user feedback.
