This week, there was a stir when screenshots showed that digital games purchased for PlayStation had a 30-day licensing life. Some claimed that the digital license management (DRM) system would perform a constant check, meaning a 24-hour internet connection would be required before the game could be played on the console.
According to a report in Gamespot today, PlayStation owners need not panic because the reality is different from what was feared. A Sony representative said that the DRM system would check the digital license within 30 days. For the first 14 days, ownership has not been transferred to the buyer because it is still within the game's return period.
On days 15 to 30, the digital license needs to be verified only once to transfer the license to the user forever. This process will not be repeated after verification is done.
Verification is necessary because on a jailbroken PS5, the system can be tricked into transferring ownership of the game even after the game has been returned after purchase. This new system is hoped to solve the issue of fraud and exploitation by dishonest people.
