Steam Deck 2 Could Be Launched in 2028

The Steam Deck is an electronic device that is seen as popularizing the concept of a portable PC gaming console, and has popularized the portable-sized gaming device with popular brands such as ASUS, MSI and Lenovo showing off their own offerings.

Valve has previously said that they will only introduce a new version of the console when they see a new processor chip that comes with a cost and performance that can convince them to introduce a new console.

Recently, there have been reports that Valve has decided to use AMD's APU processor chips that are more readily available. This is so that they can use the latest components on the market, and reduce the likelihood of the chips being produced being abandoned quickly, given how rapidly computer processor chips are produced today.

The Steam Deck is powered by the "Aerith" processor chip, which is a custom AMD processor chip developed specifically for the platform. Since then, AMD has introduced the AMD Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z2 series of processors, while Intel has shown off the Meteor Lake, Lunar Lake and most recently Panther Lake chips that console game developers can also take advantage of.

No other details have been revealed about the new console, except that it will launch in 2028. For now, Valve appears to be preparing to launch the Steam Machine living room gaming console and the Steam Frame virtual reality headset.
