The laws of physics say that oil does not mix with water. Luxury brands usually do not collaborate with affordable brands to maintain their prestige. But this morning, luxury watch brand Audemars Piguet confirmed its collaboration with affordable watch brand Swatch.
This Audemars Piguet x Swatch collaboration will produce a watch under the Royal Pop series. Based on the video that has been shared, it is a mechanical watch that may combine the iconic AP Royal Oak design with a more casual design synonymous with the Swatch brand. The Royal Pop will be launched on May 16.
The official image of the Royal Oak has not yet been shown but there is speculation that the Royal Pop will be offered in various rainbow colors that are more cheerful than the regular Royal Oak. The Royal Oak series has been offered since 1972 and is associated with luxury because it is sold at prices starting at around RM 28,000 and rising to hundreds of thousands of ringgit. Rumors say that the Royal Pop is targeting sales at a price point between $200-$400 a piece.
This is the second time Swatch has collaborated with a luxury brand after previously offering the Speedmaster Moonwatch with Omega in 2022.
