Equinix to Build Fourth Data Center, “KL2” in Cyberjaya – Worth RM747 Million

Digital infrastructure company Equinix today announced plans to expand its business operations in Malaysia with the development of a new data center, KL2, in Kuala Lumpur. The development of the data center will help address several aspects of the nation’s digitalization, including cloud services, artificial intelligence (AI) and automation of business operations efficiency.

The new facility (KL2) will be built adjacent to Equinix’s existing data center in the metropolitan area (KL1) in Cyberjaya, aiming to further strengthen the company’s ecosystem of network, cloud platform and enterprise providers in Malaysia.

The KL2 data center is the second data center in Kuala Lumpur, and the fourth in the country. Equinix currently operates in Kuala Lumpur and Johor, and the development of the KL2 data center is an extension of the development of the JH1 and JH2 data centers that are also being developed. With a total investment of over US$190 million (~RM747 million), the KL2 data center will house more than 2,200 cabinets when fully developed.

The data center will provide a reliable platform to reduce the load on critical systems and applications once it is operational. It will also support growing digital, hyperscale and MNC companies in the region.

The services offered through the data center will also enable them to scale their operations more efficiently, offering services such as distributed AI and hybrid cloud across ASEAN quickly and easily.

In the Asia Pacific region, Equinix’s portfolio includes 65 data centers across major cities including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore
