Google today announced their latest laptop platform called Googlebook which will come with a new hybrid operating system that combines the features of both Android mobile operating systems and web-based ChromeOS.
Google has also announced that they will work with laptop brands such as ASUS, Acer, Dell and others to develop this laptop. What is not known until now is the components that will power this laptop platform.
In an interview with Chrome Unboxed, John Maletis, Vice President of Google, confirmed that the Googlebook series will be powered by processing chip offerings from Intel, MediaTek and Qualcomm.
What is interesting about this is that the chip offerings by Qualcomm and MediaTek use the Arm chip platform, while Intel's offerings still use the Intel x64 chip platform. Whether the Googlebook operating system will support both these chip platforms, or Intel will come with their own Arm chip is unknown at this time.
However, Intel appears to be the first company to confirm the collaboration between the two companies, and will introduce a more premium Googlebook offering for the consumer market.
