Meta Sued for Allegedly Allowing Scam Ads to Spread

I no longer use Facebook because it is filled with ridiculous videos, false information and even more infuriating fraudulent ads that come in a stream. With the help of AI, various fake ads for products supposedly supported by Tun Mahathir, Dato’ Sri Siti Nurhaliza and Khairul Aming can be seen with Facebook not being serious about addressing the issue that has been going on for several years.

In Santa Clara, California – Meta has finally been sued for allegedly allowing these scam ads to continue to spread without any action being taken. The class action lawsuit was filed by the county of Santa Clara on behalf of California residents because these fraudulent ads violate state law. The lawsuit seeks damages, civil damages and an order prohibiting Meta from engaging in unfair business practices.

In the writ of summons filed, Meta is also accused of tolerating false advertising misconduct and also creating a “barrier” to block fraud reduction efforts if it harms the company.

Last year Reuters reported that Meta generated around $3 billion (~RM 12 billion) through advertising for scams, illegal gambling, pornography and other content banned on Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp.
