Spotify today launched a “Verified by Spotify” sticker on artist profiles on the platform to differentiate human artists from AI-generated artists. It’s a step towards increasing trust and transparency in an era of AI-generated music.
To receive this verification badge, Spotify will look at consistent listener streaming activity and see if there are sudden spikes that would usually indicate bots. Artists will also need to prove they’re a real person on and off the platform through concerts, merchandise sales, and social media accounts.
The identity verification badge will appear on artist profiles and search results in the coming weeks. Over 99% of the most searched artists will be verified at launch.
In addition to the identity verification badge, Spotify is also introducing a new profile view that displays achievements, upcoming album releases, concert activity, and more so fans can get to know artists better. The feature is still in beta only on the Spotify mobile app.
