Malaysian citizens will soon be able to obtain a passport with a validity period of up to 10 years. Previously, the validity period of a Malaysian passport was only 5 years. This information was published through Federal Legislation under the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026.
The application for this 10-year passport is RM350 per person. For senior citizens aged 60 and above, the fee is RM175.00 which is equivalent to a 50% discount. For persons with disabilities (OKU) aged 18 and above who are registered under the OKU Act 2008, as well as all officers and staff of the Malaysian Immigration Department, it can be applied for free without any fee.
However, the Immigration Department has not publicly confirmed when the application for the 10-year passport will begin or whether it has already been launched to the public. Published under P.U. (A) 208/2026, the amendment marks a significant change to the Malaysian passport system.
Although the new rate determination is already valid and comes into force immediately on the gazette date, the document states that it remains to be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat in accordance with the requirements of Section 4 of the Fees Act 1951.
