The long-awaited announcement finally arrived this morning with OpenAI announcing that it has filed for its initial public offering (IPO). OpenAI did not disclose the size or terms of the IPO, and said the process could take time. Previous reports had predicted a valuation of up to $1 trillion with it happening as early as September.
The three major artificial intelligence (AI) companies in the world, OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceX, have now filed for their IPOs. The funds raised will allow the companies to continue expanding their operations, particularly to build more data centers to accommodate capacity.
OpenAI has a chatbot app with 1 billion monthly users, making it the fastest to reach this milestone. This week, reports emerged that OpenAI is in the process of updating its ChatGPT interface to make it a super app to access OpenAI’s various paid services. This is being done to increase the number of paying customers and compete more aggressively with Anthropic
